Solicited Application Letter

Companies that have open positions generally advertise by posting job requisitions on online job boards, on the company’s website, or by taking out an ad in the newspaper. The purpose of the solicited application letter, also referred to as a cover letter, is to get an interview. It is your letter of introduction and should be written in a manner that captures the hiring manager’s attention and makes you stand out from the competition.

Format and Content

The solicited application letter format begins by stating the specific advertised position you are applying for, where you learned about the job opening and why you feel you are the best candidate. The body of the letter should contain examples of how you can help the organization achieve its goals based on your experience, education and skills. The concluding paragraph contains your contact information and thanks the hiring manager for his or her time and consideration.
