Employers are often quick to reprimand an employee for doing a poor job as this almost always results in lost revenue that hurts the company. Sometimes employers overlook that hard working, dependable employee who always has the work completed on time and without mistakes. It can make a noticeable difference in morale when a quiet, loyal employee who has shown consistent dedication is recognized with a letter of appreciation for hard work from the employer.
Format and Content
The employee’s name, department in which he or she works and job duties are items that should be included in a letter of appreciation for hard work format. If the letter is written by the CEO or a member of upper management, a copy of the letter should be sent to the employee’s immediate supervisor as well. It is also a good idea to place a copy of the letter in the employee’s personnel file.

It has come to my attention that a heartfelt thank you for years of outstanding service is long overdue. As you know, I recently hired a consultant, Joseph Carter from XYZ Consulting, who has educated me on a number of things I was not aware of regarding the day-to-day operations of the company.
Mr. Carter informed me that my customer service department runs like a well-oiled machine, largely due to your knowledge of our products and computer system and your skill in keeping your team motivated. He said that you showed expert handling of dissatisfied customers whose calls were escalated to your office, and that you turned the complaints around with little cost to the company and without having the calls escalated farther up the ladder.
It was also explained to me that you exhibited a great deal of knowledge of the overall functioning of the company, and that you are a person who understands the “big picture.” I understand that you are also the “go to” person for other departments, regarding anything related to customer service and product information as well as inventory. I have been told that you have as much knowledge of our inventory as those who work in the supply chain area. This is quite an impressive feat.
Although I have known for many years that you are an extremely valuable employee, I was not aware of the extent of your knowledge and expertise and the extent to which other departments depend on you when they run into a problem. I want you to know that your 2 decades of hard work here at ABC Industries are greatly appreciated and at the first of the year you can look for a 15% raise in your paycheck.
