Legislative Director Responsibilities and Duties

Create federal priority issues with Executive Director and coordinate with state agency staff.

Strategize and create action plans to advance legislative issues under Executive Director’s consultation.

Research federal legislation and prepare memoranda to analyze and outline response options.

Respond to congressional delegation members and state officials questions on federal legislative activities.

Prepare federal legislative testimony to be used of legislative committees.

Develop, check and revise legislation to satisfy federal legislative agenda.

Represent agency at conferences, hearings and meetings.

Handle Executive Director assigned work and duties.

Consult with President regularly.

Coordinate Legislative Committee activities.

Draft Legislative Update for Newsletter.

Draft and mail legislative correspondence needing President’s signature.

Hire and coach Legislative Committee members.

Perform and hold Legislative Committee meetings through telephone conferencing.

Get trained from outgoing Legislative Director.
