Fisheries Biologist Responsibilities and Duties

Analyze biological data to develop fisheries management plan for maintenance and restoration of fisheries and habitat.

Conduct studies on fish population, growth, migration and mortality in connection to surface water quality.

Monitor fisheries and develop reports on harvest fish eggs, fish habitat, and fish population.

Coordinate with Hatchery Managers in developing hatchery systems.

Coordinate with waterway and environmental protection sources to protect water and aquatic habitat.

Manage training, work load assignment, work schedule and payment processing activities for workers.

Negotiate with governmental and private sectors on fisheries programs and projects.

Identify fisheries problems and prescribe effective solutions.

Manage reports and correspondences related to fisheries work.

Coordinate and plan fish distribution programs.

Evaluate fish transportation equipment to ensure safe and best transportation of fish.

Assist scientists on fish biology and conservation experiments.

Attend educational and training workshops on fish biology.

Update Director on project status, problems and schedule.

Prepare budgets, statements of works, contracts, payment requests, and purchase orders as needed.

Stay updated on latest trends in aquatic industry and provide fishery monitoring and management recommendations.
