A supply chain manager oversees the buying, selling, and distribution of products for a mid to large-sized company. Position Description
A supply chain manager purchases items for a store or a chain of stores, coordinates orders and shipments so that items are neither overstocked nor out of stock, and negotiates with distributors to acquire the best price for store products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Supply Chain Manager
•Consults with company management to determine supply budget.
•Places orders for supplies.
•Creates strategic plan for recurring future orders.
•Ensures that all supply orders arrive on time.
•Ensures that all expenditures fall within designated budget.
•Reviews shipments to check for delivery errors or defective items.
•Assists in determining standards for quality control.
•Ensures that all products shipped to stores are up to quality standards.
•Processes returns of any bulk shipments of defective items.
•Manages inventory of supplies.
•Negotiates with distributors for bulk prices.
•Oversees the transfer of goods from warehouses to satellite stores.
•Reduces or increases supply orders to meet consumer demands.
•Consults with store managers to create lists of new items to stock.
•Studies customer base to inform order and distribution decisions.
•Addresses and resolves shipment delays or problems.
•Recruits and hires warehouse clerks and/or shipping and receiving specialists.
•Oversees employee activity on a daily basis.
•Conducts employee performance reviews.

Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degreein Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field is required.
•Previous work experience in the field is required.
•Previous experience in a supervisory capacity is strongly preferred.

Work Environment
•Time is split between store visits, warehouses, factories, and distributing locations.
•Local and national travel will be required to check on various shipments.
•Some warehouse conditions may be hazardous so protective gear should be worn during visits.
•40-hour workweek applies though some overtime may be required.

Salary
•The average salary for a supply chain manager is between $80,000 and $90,000 per year.
•Salaries range from $65,000 to $120,000 depending on company profile and years of experience.
