Position Description

The clinic manager answers to the general physicians in the clinic and works with the physicians to find the most effective way of executing the daily duties of the clinic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Clinic Manager

  • Works with the clinic’s physicians to establish goals and long term plans for the clinic and follows up with actionable

    policies to help the staff work towards and achieve those goals.

  • Plans the daily work that needs to be done and assigns the tasks to appropriate staff members.
  • Assesses and evaluates the jobs of staff members and meets with them to make suggestions for improvement, address deficiencies, and, when necessary, remove and replace staff members.
  • Evaluates pay increases in accordance with proper execution of clinic practices and meritorious service to the clinic.
  • Administers disciplinary actions for violations of clinic practices and recommends removal of staff that is unable to work within the parameters of the clinic.
  • Interviews and aids in the selection of administrative and clinical staff.
  • Trains new staff in the policies and procedures of the clinic.
  • Oversees medical coding, collections and billing procedures, including any necessary follow ups with delinquent patients.
  • Reviews patient care procedures and evaluates physician performance with regular assessments, patient questionnaires, and personal observations.
  • Manages use of administrative and medical resources and orders new supplies as needed.
  • Recommends patients for further work at specialty clinics, labs, or hospitals as needed.
  • Supervises filing system and organizes files as needed.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality regarding medical records and personal information.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have exceptional people skills, ability to work with the physicians, patients, and staff and mediate between them.
  • Must provide excellent customer service and interact with people from all walks of life.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of medical and nursing practices.
  • Must be familiar with administrative policies in physicians and medical offices.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask.
  • Must be able to develop working relationships with staff and patients.
  • Must have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be familiar with HIPPA policies and applicable medical regulations.
  • Must have experience with computer systems, especially databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Must be able to take initiative and become a leader in the office.
  • Must have some research skills and be able to present findings to staff.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with some college coursework required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in health, business or public administration recommended.
  • Must have at least two years’ experience in a clinical setting or a medical office.
  • Nursing or medical experience recommended.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to spend long hours sitting, standing, and moving about a medical office.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the general public and physicians.

Salary

  • Median yearly salary is $64,000.
  • With specialization in outpatient clinics or employment in specialized clinics, median salary can top $85,000.
