Church Administrator Job Description
The job description of a church administrator includes actively supporting the church’s core values, mission statement, vision and various ministries. A major part of the job involves handling the day to day operations of the church and managing money by dealing with budgets, bills, payroll and cash flow.

Position Description
A church administrator has responsibilities that are similar to those of a business manager or office administrator, and the scope of the job depends on the size of the church’s congregation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Church Administrator
•Works with the church accountant to develop a budget, approve purchases and manage cash flow.
•Prepares the payroll for all employees of the church.
•Keeps personnel records; hires and fires church administrative staff members.
•Maintains office equipment and office supplies.
•Supervises other clerical or administrative staff members.
•Assists the pastor with communications by handling written correspondence and phone messages.
•Manages the church’s website, newsletter, magazine, bulletin, announcements and other publicity.
•Keeps the church schedule for use of the fellowship hall for weddings and gatherings as well as the use of classrooms for Bible studies or other special courses.
•Tracks church attendance and keeps reports on file.
•Keeps the pastor’s appointment calendar and the calendars of associate pastors and other staff members.
•Ensures that the physical buildings belonging to the church are well-maintained by contacting repairmen and overseeing their work.
•Maintains all insurance policies associated with the church and keeps an inventory of all church property including vehicles and equipment.
•Schedules the cleaning crew and landscapers who keep the church property maintained inside and out.
•Manages energy use in the church and works to make it as efficient as possible.
•Administers the records of the church and official documents.
•Answers questions from members and other staff regarding administrative processes.
•Keeps the master church calendar and makes sure there are no conflicts.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
•Displays strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Has exceptional mathematical abilities.
•Pays close attention to detail and has excellent record keeping abilities.
•Possesses strong technological abilities and has knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
•Has the ability to operate standard office equipment.
•Demonstrates knowledge of and is able to apply standard bookkeeping skills and accepted accounting practices.
•Possesses the ability to skillfully coordinate the work of a large group of volunteers.
•Has knowledge of and supports the church’s mission statement, beliefs and commitment.

Education and Experience
•Associate’s degree in business or accounting.
•Bachelor’s degree in business or religious studies.
•Certified Church Administrator designation from the National Association of Church Business Administration.
•Experience working in a church office.

Work Environment
•Works regular hours of 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday.
•Spends time in a climate controlled office environment.
•Faces various deadlines associated with publications and finances.

Salary
•The salary of a church administrator ranges from $25,000 to $55,000 depending on the size of the church, the specific responsibilities and years of service.
