Here are Medical Assistant Cover Letter Examples:

Dear Dr. Allen:

I am a patient who has grown up in your family practice. I have always wanted to work in a doctor’s office and specifically at XYZ Family Practice. I recently finished my course work at ABC Technical School where I have been studying to be a medical assistant for the past 2 years. I graduated with honors and went on to take and pass the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) test administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). I would appreciate being considered for a position as a medical assistant in your practice.

It has always been my dream to work in my neighborhood family practice as I get a great deal of satisfaction out of helping people. My last semester as a student at ABC was spent doing an internship at the XYZ Health Department and I learned a great deal on the job during that assignment. I prepared examination rooms, took each patient’s pulse, blood pressure, temperature and other vital signs, drew blood for the lab and assisted doctors during some examinations. I believe I was able to make a smooth transition from a classroom situation to a real medical office with live patients and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I am passionate about helping people and know that working in the family practice that nurtured me through my childhood is the right place for me. Helping sick patients back on the road to recovery is something I find very rewarding and I know this is what I want to make my life’s work. I hope to have the privilege of working as a medical assistant at XYZ Family Practice in the future. I am available for an interview at your convenience and can be reached on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email]

Example 2 -Unadvertised Opening

This medical assistant cover letter example is from a person who has several years’ experience working as an assistant in a medical practice. The person has recently relocated to another city to be closer to family and is looking for a job as a medical assistant in the new location.

Dear Practice Administrator:

I am a certified medical assistant with 4 years’ experience working in an orthopedic practice. I have recently moved to Rochester, New York from Albany to be closer to my aging mother and am looking for a position as a medical assistant in the area. My resume is attached and includes a reference letter from the orthopedic surgeon for whom I worked at XYZ Orthopedics in Albany. Prior to my work at XYZ I attended Albany Technical School where I received my Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting and passed my Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam.

My work at XYZ Orthopedics included taking down each patient’s medical history, and taking vital signs like blood pressure, pulse and temperature. I prepared patients for x-rays and bone density tests, explained the testing procedures to each patient and answered their questions. I also have a great deal of experience checking patients’ range of motion following an injury and throughout recovery, applying bandages and splints and assisting doctors during certain minor surgical procedures.

In addition to working directly with patients I have handled a number of administrative and clerical duties in an orthopedic office too. I have experience answering phones, scheduling patients, verifying insurance coverage, obtaining referrals and medical records and handling some coding and transcription duties. I am a team player who is always happy to pitch in at any time and in any area where help is needed. Seeing that patients receive top quality healthcare services is my primary goal.

I hope that you will review my attached resume and consider me for a job as a medical assistant when one becomes available. I am happy to come to your office for an interview at your convenience. I can be reached on my cell phone any time at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email]

Example 3 – Response to Job Postings and Classifieds Ads

This medical assistant cover letter example is from an individual who has taken several years off from her work as a medical assistant to stay at home and care for her small children. Now that the children are in elementary school she would like to return to work full time.

Dear Ms. Roberts:

I am responding to the job ad in the Orlando Sentinel for a medical assistant needed in your office. I have experience working as a medical assistant for 3 years in another pediatric practice in Clearwater, Florida. When I moved to Orlando 6 years ago to accommodate my husband’s job I did not return to work right away. I stayed at home caring for our 2 daughters, but now that they are in school all day I am ready to return to work full time.

I did a review and took the Certified Medical Assistant exam to renew my certification. I passed the test and now hold a CMA designation again. I have experience performing duties that include taking children’s vital signs like temperature, pulse and blood pressure, performing strep tests, administering vaccinations, drawing blood for lab tests, taking height and weight measurements and approving prescription refills according to the doctor’s orders.

I greatly enjoy working with children and found my work as a medical assistant extremely rewarding. Although it has been a few years since I have worked in a physician’s office, the senior pediatrician at my previous employer’s office wrote a reference letter for me which is included with my attached resume. Along with the normal duties related to patient care I also filled in when needed in the front office. I answered phones, scheduled patients, verified insurance coverage and made sure that parents completed all necessary paperwork.

I would appreciate being considered for the available position of medical assistant in your practice. I know that you run a very busy practice, and I find that prospect exciting as I thrive in a fast-paced environment. I am available to come in for an interview any time at your convenience. Please contact me at (555)-555-5555 or by email at [email] I hope to have the privilege of helping care for the children in your practice.
