How To Add Education To A Resume?

When it comes to adding education to a resume, you need to ensure that you know how to go about it. Education can be one of the most significant parts of an applicant’s qualifications, and including it in an erroneous fashion; could discredit the entire resume. This said, we explain what you need to know about adding education to your resume, so that it is correct and effective at getting you an interview for the position that you are interested in.

Higher Education
The first topic for discussion when it comes to placing education on your resume is that of higher education. So, if you are currently enrolled in a college or university, or have finished your schooling at one of these higher education institutions, and have retained a degree; you should include it in a resume under education. Start with the most recent of higher education, and include details on the name of the school, the degree obtained, and the dates you studied there. You should also include any details that make this higher education look extraordinary, such as being on the Dean’s List or having a GPA of 3.2 or above.

Training and Accreditation

If you have coursework, training, or have been enrolled in specific accreditation and certification programs that are not related to your main means of education-such as taking a course in a new topic in the Computers industry, or something to that effect-you should include it, if it is pertinent to your field and/or career; but not in your education section. Instead, in most cases, training and accreditation that has included hands on work-that was not a part of your higher education-should be placed in a section entitled “Related Skills and Training”.

High School
The only reason that a candidate should list high school education under their education section on their resume is if they have no higher education to offer. Though it is most common to have a degree at a university or a college; there are instances when higher education just couldn’t be afforded or did not fit in with the person’s priorities at the time. This said, they should begin with details about their high school education; meanwhile dressing up the experience that they have gained since high school, to downplay the fact that there is no higher education degree to offer.

Where Should the Education Section Be Placed?
Though there are various types of resume formats that people use to present their career qualifications, one aspect that always confounds candidates is which to put first-the employment history or the education. Still others believe it is up to the individual or that it is based upon which was most recent. There is, indeed, a rule as to which should come first; and it is this: if a person has less than five years of experience in the field and career to which they are applying, they should put their education with higher education first. If, however, the candidate only has a high school degree to offer and less than five years experience; then the career experience should be listed first. Basically, whichever is more impressive in the course of length should be given first.
